Travelling With Friends

For around 40 years we have had a close group of friends that we have travelled with, picnicked with, and socialised with. Originally it was a family oriented group as we all had young children and attended the same church – we called ourselves F-Troop. As the children have grown up the group has changed a bit but we still get together regularly. The group generally have a week long trip each year where we have a mix of caravans, caravan park cabins and AirBNB. Four couples in the group have caravans so we often travel together in some way, with anything from 2 to 4 couples. The bigger group now goes by the name Friends Inc – so those of us with caravans have given ourselves the name ‘Friends Inc Caravanners’. We also get together at the local Bowling Club about once a month (when we aren’t travelling) for their Trivia Night and there we go by the name ‘Caravanners’.

On one trip last year I was asked by one member if I could make them a cheese board to keep in their caravan. This got me thinking, and I decided to make specially designed laser engraved boards for each of the caravanners.

I wanted something a little bit quirky, so it took a while to find a design for the laser engraving and some editing to make it suitable. I then used some Tasmanian Myrtle that had originally been part of a bookshelf and made 4 boards – each similar in shape but with slight variations as I generally freestyle my shapes. As well as putting the main design front and centre on the boards, on the reverse I put the name of the couple it was being given to and my GT Creations branding.

So our little caravan group have these boards to add to our self identification. We also have the wives all having caravan earrings and the husbands having yellow bucket hats (courtesy of my son’s work).
